OPPORTUNITY: Paint the Bayou in March

“Jefferson Island Boathouse,” by Phil Sandusky, 2016, oil, 12 x 24 in. First Place in last year’s Shadows-on-the-Teche event

The Shadows-on-the-Teche plein air event draws painters to Bayou Teche, in Louisiana at the Mississippi Delta. Get in on it this year.

The competition will be held March 11-18 in New Iberia, Louisiana. This is the event’s third year. Erik Koeppel will serve as judge and juror. “Enjoy a unique region enhanced by its architecture, massive moss-covered live oaks, and sugar-producing fields watered by the meandering Bayou Teche,” says the organizer. “Home to pioneering sugar planters, the oldest operating rice mill in the United States, a 19th-century actor’s hunting estate, and Avery Island, the birthplace of Tabasco, this region offers excellent food, superb original music, and hospitable residents.”

The deadline for applying is December 31; go here for more information.
