“We camped in the Tuolumne Meadows campground, and I spent each day painting in Yosemite,” Donna Vis explains. “I attracted a crowd of onlookers, and some people came back each day to see how the painting was developing. Some asked questions about the pastels because the medium was unfamiliar to them, so I put a sign behind me to answer what became the most frequently asked questions. I didn’t want to be rude to people who are interested, and I was delighted to be able to increase awareness of pastel painting. However, I must say that the interruptions became somewhat difficult to deal with because I was trying to cover a really large surface.” The exhibition at the Ojai Art Center in Ojai, California, will be on view until November 29, 2012.
