Who took the top prizes in Schaumburg, Illinois? Here’s who.

It was the fifth year for the Prairie Plein Air Competition and Show, which features both an overall competition and a Paint Out (Quick Draw) event. Local businesses supplied the prize money, and the event was sponsored by Blick Art Materials and the Village of Schaumburg. The Trickster Art Gallery played host, and Ratindra Das served as judge for the overall competition. The participating artists voted on the Quick Draw winners. The Herb Aigner Gallery in the Prairie Center for the Arts in Schaumburg hosted the reception for the winners.

“Quiet Waters,” by Jeanne Clohisy. Second Place

“Field Trip,” by Thomas Trausch. Third Place

Eddie Corkery won First Place for his piece “Looking West.” Judge Ratindra Das said, “You never get a second chance. I didn’t have to know the title because I really felt I was really looking west at the sunset. A large sky distributes the canvas space unequally to make a dynamic design. There are enough colors, not conflicting with each other.”

Second Place went to Jeanne Clohisy for “Quiet Waters.” Thomas Trausch won Third with “Field Trip.” Tatyana Roberts, Robert Pennor, and Frankie Johnson won Honorable Mention awards.

“Spring Greens,” by Dorothy Schildknecht. First Prize in the Paint Out (Quick Draw) competition

“Oberweis Calling,” by Steve Puttrich. Second Prize in the Paint Out competition

“I Really Don’t Know,” by Eddie Corkery. Third Prize in the Paint Out competition

In the Paint Out, Dorothy Schildknecht won First Prize for “Spring Greens,” Steve Puttrich won Second with “Oberweis Calling,” and Eddie Corkery won Third Place for “I Really Don’t Know.”
