Join us as artists from across the country (and even as far away as South Africa) paint the vast vistas and charming towns of the Lost Sierra. Workshops will be held on May 10–11, with the competition beginning on May 12. An Artist Reception and Awards Ceremony will be on May 16 at the new Nature Center in Sierra Valley. The festival concludes with a Quick Draw Competition and “Off The Easel Sale” at the street fair in downtown Quincy on May 17.

Artists from across the U.S. are invited to apply for the 2025 Boulder County Plein Air Festival along the Front Range of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Up to 25 artists will be selected to paint rural, urban and mountain scenes of beautiful Boulder County. Total award package is $4,000, with $1,000 awarded for best in show. All painting mediums are welcome.

This fun event starts with a free day on Thursday so that artists can look around Gilmer County and find some favorite spots. Friday and Saturday artists are assigned to host sites. Friday after painting there is a meet-and-greet reception for artists and volunteers at one of the sites. Sunday morning we sponsor a Quick Draw competition that ends before lunch so that artists can turn in their choices for the auction.

12TH ANNUAL PLEIN AIR CONVENTION & EXPO

The Plein Air Convention & Expo is the world’s largest gathering of outdoor artists. With a faculty of over 80 instructors, the event is designed to inspire painters and fine-tune their skills. The convention features indoor painting demonstrations, with big-screen views, in watercolor, pastel, acrylic, gouache, and oil painting. Daily painting as a group features instructors who offer suggestions as you paint. The giant Expo Hall features art supplies and frames at deep, convention-only discounts. There is also an art show of faculty and attendee artworks that is open to the public. In 2025 we will have pre-convention workshops in oil with Scott Christensen and in watercolor with Joseph Zbukvic (pre-registration required).

The week kicks off with Fresh from Cedarburg, a unique painting event held in historic Cedarburg that includes an exhibition and public sale. The 6-day painting event culminates with awards and an exhibition at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.
