“I love to paint plein air with pastels, but find it difficult to do so in the winter — I can’t keep my fingers warm enough,” said Aaron Schuerr. “Most often I work from studies I’ve made on site when painting wintry pastel landscapes in the studio, but every once in a while, it’s too cold to make even a quick sketch outdoors.”
When that happens, “I had to use the skills I’ve accumulated over years of painting en plein air to breathe life into reference photos I took while cross-country skiing and the temperature was a bone-chilling 0 degrees.”
