While the Plein Air Convention takes place over several days, memories from it last forever, along with inspiring moments such as these.
“I got to sit by an artist from Israel on the bus to Darnell Farms*. We talked about how art brings beauty to today’s world, when we often can’t seem to find it. She talked about how wonderful her time had been at PACE. We talked about the world we live in, the differences between us and the similarities as artists. It was a thoughtful discussion, both painful and enlightening. Twenty very important minutes in my whole week.” ~ Beth Bathe
“Watching Kenn Backhaus describe ambient light and the warm and cool shadow transitions under the rocks… big AHA moment! Took hearing it twice to make it sink in.” ~Elaine Miller
“So many lessons learned but one crucial aha moment(s) – Like all plein air artists go through, I was still very self conscious about painting in public. Throughout the week, I received compliments, encouragement, and many very critical (and even harmful) comments. Those critical and harmful comments only appeared when I was painting alone. We definitely are our own worst critics. Now, I can’t wait to get back out there and paint in public to silence my inner critics.” ~ David Thurwanger
