I didn’t get to shake David Leffel’s hand or tell him how much I appreciated his work, or his story, while we were at the 7th Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo. There were about a thousand artists in the room, when together we watched the video below that led to the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award for David. With all of the excitement going on, I didn’t get to tell him in person (yet) that we’re so fortunate that he chose to start drawing while living in a convalescent home in his youth, which began his path to becoming “a modern Old Master.”

For those who weren’t in the room, I’m happy to share with you the mini-documentary that captures David’s passion for art, which is something I think we can all benefit from. To quote the video, David Leffel “has spent a lifetime exploring the questions, What is Art, and What is Painting? Today his paintings define the answers to those very questions.”
