“Waiting For You”
Original Oil on Panel
“Waiting For You” was first painted en plein air as a 6 x 8 during the 2017 Paradise Paint Out in the Florida Keys. “I felt this painting had potential for becoming an outstanding painting in a larger size, so I used the plein air piece for my reference in my studio allowing me to keep the loose feel of the open air.” The location is on Beach Road in the historic section in Tavernier, Florida.
Imagine Being There
When a breathtaking view beckons to be painted, Kathleen’s greatest desire is to capture this intimate moment on canvas, while inviting her viewers into the scene as they imagine being there. The views that she finds most attractive are often located in tropical islands and quaint little towns. Whether in the Florida Keys, where she resides, or in the Bahamas, where she loves to visit, or in Maine, a favorite summer get-away, she typically looks for striking light accompanied by interesting shadows and vibrant colors.
Kathleen’s paintings of beach scenes, charming cottages and welcoming gardens have gained the attention of numerous home décor manufacturers since 1995. Featuring her designs on everything from wallpaper to rugs and kitchenware, in stores such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Home Goods, has allowed her to become one of the nation’s leading “licensed artist”. Currently she paints with oils in a contemporary impressionistic style, while winning awards and participating in juried Plein Air events. She has a following of students from teaching weekly classes and workshops the past five years. “I love to teach academically and enjoy a student who longs to be a better painter”, Kathleen expresses.
When hurricane Irma devastated the Florida Keys Kathleen’s desire to help other victims led her to painting the disaster, auctioning them off on Facebook and giving 100% to those in need. You can read more about this story, where she is honored to be a featured artist, in PleinAir magazine, December/January 2018 and on her Facebook page.
“When I paint I feel the presence of God in my life.”

“Painting Paradise: The Florida Keys”, found on Amazon, showcases my experience since childhood of visiting and painting the Keys. Desiring to capture scenes that someday may cease to exist unfortunately occurred after Irma.
