Lori Putnam spends a good deal of time traveling and making sketches on location to be used as reference material for larger paintings in her studio in Charlotte, Tennessee. This piece was inspired by a sketch made on a return trip in 2013, to a tiny town in Italy, along the Adriatic Coast. The entire story can be found here.
Now considered one of the nation’s most prominent and sought-after Modern Impressionists, Putnam’s paintings border on abstraction and are recognized for their energetic brushwork, masterful use of color, and intelligent design. Both her studio and plein air works have received impressive awards from the Oil Painters of America, the Portrait Society of America, Salmagundi Club, and the PleinAir Salon competition. She will be participating in the prestigious Laguna Plein Air Painting Invitational this October.
