The event features plein air and studio work depicting scenes in Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma, with award categories based on geographical location — awards will be given to the best paintings made depicting the Osage Creek, the Spring Creek, the Clear Creek, the Sager Creek, and the Flint Creek — all tributaries of the Illinois River. The competition is co-sponsored by the Heart of America Artists’ Association and the Illinois River Watershed Partnership. More than $7,500 in prizes will be awarded. Selected artwork will be on display at Compton Gardens in Bentonville, Arkansas, from September 30 to October 2. Prize winners will be on view at the Crystal Bridges Museum, also in Bentonville, during the Restoration of Our Rivers Conference, October 3 and 4.
