In this series Kelly Kane, Editor-in-Chief of PleinAir® Magazine, shares a favorite painting from a previous issue:
“I love bold brushwork, with high contrast and tons of impact. I use a variety of tools and techniques in the studio, so once I reevaluated what it was that drew me to painting to begin with, I started choosing my outdoor subject matter a little differently. Instead of painting what I thought I ‘should’ paint, I focused on subject matter as a way to explore my studio techniques out in the field. Varying textures for everything from rocks, water, grass, and sky to rusty metal and gravel keeps me inspired, and ultimately has completely changed the way I feel about plein air painting. Nothing is off limits, and everything has a story to tell.”
