There’s a plein air event in the land of the Wyeths, a place where Pyles once roamed. It’s called the Chadds Ford Paint Out. And the prizes?

There are none. Even so, more than 20 artists were pleased to be juried into the event, held February 6, including Randall Graham, Stewart White, Roberta Staat, Elise Phillips, Lynn Mehta, Neal Hughes, Ann Crostic, Chuck Law, Alison Leigh Menke, and Barry Koplowitz. Proceeds went to the Chadds Ford Historical Society.

“Being in Chadds Ford is like being in art history,” says Graham. “There is such a rich tradition of artists, from Andrew, Jamie, and N.C. Wyeth to Howard Pyle. The chance to paint Kuerner’s Farm was like doing a plein air master copy. It was a magical experience. The Chadds Ford Historical Society put on a magnificent event.”

It was the eighth year for the event. The pieces will be on view at the Chadds Ford Barn Visitors Center through March 25.
