Chestertown RiverArts named the winners for its 6th Annual Paint the Town event last week, with two names coming to the fore.

Alison Leigh Menke won Best of Show for her painting “When Frozen Thaws.” David Diaz won Best Body of Work in the event. Hai-Ou Hou served as judge, with 49 artists completing roughly 250 works of art.

David Diaz won Best Body of Work.

“Though the weather was a bit chilly, there was sunshine throughout the event,” Menke says. “I woke up for the sunrise Friday, dressed in every layer I had, and set out to paint ‘When Frozen Thaws.’ The community is friendly, and Kent County had a wide variety of beautiful vistas and subjects to paint. I very much look forward to this event next year. I couldn’t be more thankful and honored for the recognition my painting received at this event.”

Adds Diaz, “When you’re out painting, you’re always hoping to do just the best that you can do and maybe better than last time. So to get an award from your peers who are out there painting along with you, and who find something somehow special in yours, is a really fine honor.”
