Richmond, Virginia, painter Amy Donahue was painting a pleasant scene, when a unicyclist pedaled through her view. What could she do?

“You never know what you’ll see plein air painting on a street corner,” says Donahue. “I snapped a photo of him flying down the sidewalk and quickly rearranged some elements in the painting to include him. I made a dab where I wanted to place him in the painting. Back in my studio I used a smaller brush to get the details of him and his unicycle on the canvas.”
