Albert Handell painted a pastel demo at the Plein Air Convention & Expo (PACE) last week, and, before he made a single mark, he said something that let the audience know it was not going to be a typical demonstration.
The master pastelist with a classic Brooklyn accent gave a brief hello, then approached his pastel paper. With an empty, open hand, he brushed the paper up and down slowly. “Believe it or not, I’ve begun,” he said.
