Carlton J. Manzano said he wasn’t the least bit concerned about the regular freight trains that roar down the tracks that were just a few feet from his easel.

Manzano was competing in the Quick Draw competition during the Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival in Newburgh, New York. But hey, while Western artists deal with bears and moose, Northeastern painters know their safety zone around 260,000-pound locomotives.

And when the inevitable train came by, Manzano lowered his head and held on to his painting and easel until calmness resumed.
