When a group of local artists decided to band together to paint the coastline and canyons of Laguna Beach, none of them could have foreseen how that simple get-together back in 1996 would evolve into one of the most prestigious high-powered plein air painting events held around the country. In 2019 LPAPA will be presenting its 21st Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational. This eight-day event includes an opening-day Quick Draw, public demonstrations and presentations, Collectors Gala, substantial cash prizes, and 100+ original works of art by 35 world-renowned artists.

Paint in historic Dubuque, Iowa, on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. Dubuque was founded in the early 1800s and boasts many historic residences, buildings, and parks, as well as scenic river overlook and riverfront scenes and interesting barge, rail, and industrial infrastructure. Dubuque County, which bounds the event, is nestled in the Driftless Area, with unique topography and many interesting rural scenes. Our sales venue is a beautiful former German Catholic church, now restored as an event center. The annual Harford Plein Air Festival, sponsored by the Maryland Center for the Arts, juries in 30 artists to paint outdoor scenes throughout Harford County, Maryland, featuring expansive farms, natural parks, historic mills, quaint towns, marinas, and hidden treasures. The Collectors’ Preview and Public Gallery Sale will be held at the Bel Air Armory, Bel Air’s stronghold for arts and entertainment, centrally located in the heart of Harford County in the popular town of Bel Air. The Quick Draw competition occurs on Saturday morning, open to all artists, with awards and sale along Bel Air’s Office Street.

Cape Ann Plein Air is New England’s premier plein air painting competition, held in the picturesque coastal communities of Cape Ann, Massachusetts, just 25 miles north of Boston. For more than a century artists including Fitz Henry Lane, Winslow Homer, Childe Hassam, and Edward Hopper visited and created master works in the beautiful light of Cape Ann. Known as the birthplace of American plein air painting, Cape Ann offers an astounding variety of subject matter, from working farms and tidal marshes to the quaint villages, working harbors, historic homes, beautiful beaches, rocky coast, and the majestic fishing fleet of Gloucester Harbor.

Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, in partnership with the Santa Fe Collector Art Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will present its 11th National Juried members show On Oct 3, 2019. Featuring 150 juried works by New Mexico and other painters, and judged by the esteemed artist Peggi Kroll-Roberts. The exhibition will kick off with a reception and awards ceremony at the Santa Fe Collector on Oct 4, 2019 from 5-7PM. The show of PAPNM paintings will be available the month of October.
