1st Place Overall: “Headin’ Home” by Lori Putnam

Painting of two horses
“Headin’ Home” by Lori Putnam
36×48 in., Oil
$600 Prize

Thoughts From the Judge: “Headin’ Home” is a stunning painting that stood out immediately as a favorite. The sunny light effect is painted with simplicity and directness, very believable. The focal point is powerful. One can feel the tentative steps of the animals on a precarious rocky path, quite an achievement!

2nd Place Overall: “A Brand New Day” by Paula Holtzclaw

Painting of a boat at sunrise
“A Brand New Day” by Paula Holtzclaw
24×20 in., Oil
$300 Prize

Thoughts From the Judge: Beautiful mood! “A Brand New Day” shows an authentic experience of the water and sky at sunrise. The gentle movement of the water is a perfect complement to the drama in the sky.

3rd Place Overall: “Radio City” by William Schneider

Oil painting of New York City
“Radio City” by William Schneider
30×40 in., Oil
$100 Prize

Thoughts From the Judge: “Radio City” is a dynamic and striking painting with a strong sense of depth and atmosphere. It is a beautiful balancing act of glowing lights, shadows and reflections.

About the PleinAir Salon:

PleinAir magazine presents the annual PleinAir Salon Art Competition. In the spirit of the French Salon created by the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, this annual competition, with monthly cycles leading to annual Salon Grand Prize winners, is designed to stimulate artistic growth through competition. The competition rewards artists with $30,000 in cash prizes and exposure of their work, with the winning painting featured on the cover of PleinAir magazine.

It is our belief that cash prizes provide further inspiration and an avenue for artists to thrive and create new work by helping alleviate financial pressure.

Winners in each monthly competition may receive recognition and exposure through PleinAir magazine’s print magazine, e-newsletter, and social media. Winners of each monthly competition will also be entered into the annual competition.
