Preview the Upcoming PleinAir Magazine (February/March 2021)

Enjoy a sneak peek at some of the articles coming up in the February/March issue of PleinAir Magazine (subscribe here), showcasing the top artists and emerging talents making news in the plein air community today.

PleinAir Magazine made its debut in 2004, but was re-imagined with a broader editorial focus and renamed Fine Art Connoisseur a short time later. In the years that followed, interest in plein air painting increased dramatically and PleinAir was relaunched in 2011. And so it is that we celebrate the magazine’s 10th Anniversary in 2021!

Throughout the year, we’ll mark the occasion with a series of special articles. In the February/March issue, we’ll catch up with 10 artists who were featured in the early days of the magazine, get a look at how their work has changed, and find out what they’re up to today.

We are confident that you will enjoy this and the other articles we have planned for the next issue.

DESTINATION INSPIRATION: BONDED OVER TRAVEL, MOTHERHOOD, AND ART
As young mothers, Kami Mendlik and Kim Casebeer met at Door County Plein Air and made an instant connection. Over time, shared rental cars and hotel rooms for big events turned into painting trips designed just for the two of them. In this issue, they share a few of their favorite getaways, including a standout two-week adventure that took them from Big Sky, Montana, to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

POSTCARDS FROM THE ROAD: ARTISTS SHARE THE MANY JOYS AND CHALLENGES OF THE PLEIN AIR PAINTER’S LIFE.

In the winter months, watermedia painter Stephen Quiller goes out most late afternoons to cross-country ski and make sketches that he’ll develop later in the studio. But on one gray squally day, he was inspired to paint the stunning view of the Crestone Needles and Kit Carson Peak directly on location. The wind and droplets of precipitation all made their way into the work.
