Judge Phil Fisher scrutinized the entries at 2014 Paint the Beach…Sandcastles to Shrimp Boats, held in Fort Myers, Florida.

In the fifth year for Paint the Beach, 60 painters converged on the Florida town of Fort Myers to divvy up 16 awards. Who took home the hardware? 

First Place, which was sponsored by PleinAir magazine and Santini Marina Plaza, went to Kathryn McMahon for “Lover’s Key Delight.” Second Place, courtesy of Fish-Tale Marina, was won by Neil Walling for “Bowditch Point Colors.” David Belling won Third Place, sponsored by Smokin’ Oyster Brewery, for “Shrimp Factory.”

PleinAir magazine also sponsored two lesser awards, which went to Lynette Vaughn and Michele Barron Buelow. Sun Eden sponsored several awards that were given to Melody Bogle, Randon Eddy, Inez Hudson, and Nory McNellis.

The Canson Excellence in Arts award went to Mimi Little. The Judson Guerilla Painter Merit Award was won by Lionel Heddy and Christa Friedl. The Michi’s Frame & Art Special Award for Painting Most Representative of the Beach was won by Sal Sidner.

Neil Walling won Second Place with “Bowditch Point Colors.”

The event, which had the full title of  2014 Paint the Beach…Sandcastles to Shrimp Boats, had two Quick Draws, one for adults and one for teens. In the adult division, Neil Walling won First Place, Fran Mangino won Second Place, and Ken Fraser won Third Place. In the teen/student division, Valerie Hernandez took First Place, Timmy Le won Second Place, and Nicole Rawson won Third Place.

David Belling took Third Place with “Shrimp Factory.” 

“Many artists made reservations for next year before leaving the beach,” reports Michele Barron Buelow, one of the organizers of the event.
