Exuberant participants get into their painting

April’s Plein Air Convention & Expo, held in Monterey, California, sold out and was the subject of almost embarrassingly effusive praise after the event. Artists loved the high caliber of the presenters, the supportive and vigorous mood of the programs, and the professionalism of the production. And participants made it known that they wanted to return to Monterey, with its abundance of painting opportunities and beautiful weather … and the organizers agreed. Artists are now invited to sign up for next year’s Plein Air Convention and Expo — early and while the roster still has room.

The details are still coming together, but the Monterey Conference Center has been booked for April 7 through 11, 2014. The Marriott Hotel will not be available, so PleinAir magazine booked all of the rooms at the Portola Hotel. Rooms will cost the same as last year — $169 — when booked by mentioning the Plein Air Convention Discount.

The organizers are offering an early-bird registration rate of $795 until February 14, 2014, when the cost climbs to $995. New to the convention in 2014 will be separate tracks for watercolorists and pastelists, and an art showcase and sale. Visit the convention’s website for more information and to register.
