More than $16,000 in prizes was awarded at the Plein Air Artists Colorado’s 18th Annual National Juried Show, which opened on Aug. 9 at Abend Gallery, in Denver. Who won? 

Bonnie McGee took home the top prize—Best of Show—for her painting “Convergence.” Damien Gonzales earned First Place in the Signature Member category for “Bobcat Trail.” In the Associate Member category, Lamya Deeb won First Place for “Little Snowy Ditch.”

Second Place was won by Jeanne Mackenzie for “Serpentine Shadows.” Third Place went to Katie Dowling for “The Ceiling.” The Allen Award was won by Peggy Immel for “Ridge Line.” William Scott Jennings won the Master Signature Award for “Early Spring Rapids.” Jane Hunt won Artists’ Choice for “Boulder Furrows.”

Awards of Merit went to Cliff Austin, Lorie Batson, Debra Joy Groesser, David Grossmann, Carol Jenkins, Val Meyers, Dennis Rhoades, and Lindsay Ternes.

PAAC Master Signature member Karen Vance was the judge of awards. 

“It was such a fun event, and the PAAC board and Abend Gallery did an amazing job,” reports Jane Hunt. “Everyone agreed the quality of work was exceptional this year. That made getting this award from my peers even more meaningful. I’m still sort of in shock, but am incredibly flattered!”
