John Hoffman took advantage of the scaffolding erected for chimney repair on his house and painted the view from his roof.

Englishman John Hoffman had some work done on his house’s chimney this fall. The scaffolding was too tempting for him to resist.

“The guys had not been back for a bit, so I got my ladder and had a climb up, with my homemade pochade box, just for the challenge of a strange viewpoint,” Hoffman says. “Because of my job as a historic-barn renovator, I am used to heights. While up there the conditions were frosty and a bit slippy underfoot, with a lovely cold wind that cut the temp down a bit.”

Hoffman says he wasn’t thrilled with the painting he got out of the experience, but he feels certain he’ll get back up chimneyside for another try.
