Hiuhan Liu had his hands full last week. He was charged with judging the Carmel Art Festival, a respected event that attracts top artists around California and beyond. Whose painting did he choose?
 
Stacy Barter took the top prize in Carmel, California, for her oil painting “Courtyard Bliss.” Barry John Raybould took Second with his “Best Friends, Carmel Beach.” Wayne McKenzie won Third Place with “Bixby Revisited.”

The PleinAir Magazine Award of Excellence was won by Carl Bretzke for his painting “A Good Day for Sheep,” while the PleinAir Collector.com Award of Excellence went to John Guernsey for “Morning Stroll/Pacific Grove.” Xia Yu won the Fine Art Connoisseur Award of Excellence for “Sunset, 17 Mile Drive.”

Barry John Raybould won Best Oil or Acrylic with his piece “And Then the Sun Came Out,” Gretha Lindwood took Best Pastel for “Beauty and the Beach,” and Rolf Lygren’s “Low Tide & Kelp” won Best Watercolor. The People’s Choice award went to Coraly Hanson and “Sunset Over Carmel River.” Best Local went to Mark Farina for “Dune Cypress.” Lu Yu won Artists’ Choice with “Point Lobos Sunset,” and Laura Wambsgans won the Mayor’s Award with “Carmel Beach.”
