At a forthcoming sale, collectors will find the distinctive landscape paintings of California Impressionists Guy Rose, William Wendt, and their accomplished peers.
Held in Los Angeles and simulcast to San Francisco, Bonhams’ latest sale of California and Western Paintings & Sculpture takes place August 5, when bidding on the first lot opens at 6 p.m. Presale viewings in San Francisco (July 25-27) and in Los Angeles (August 2-4) will offer a firsthand look at the exceptional paintings on offer.

With a catalogue that boasts great depth and quality, Bonhams continues to assert itself as a primary source for California Impressionism. The most celebrated painters of the California plein air painting movement are all featured in the August sale. Guy Rose, Granville Redmond, and William Wendt are represented by exemplary paintings, as are Albert Bierstadt, Maurice Braun, Joseph Kleitsch, and Edgar Payne.

Guy Rose’s picturesque vision of rural France, titled “A Normandy Farm,” leads presale estimates at $300,000-$500,000. A coastal landscape by William Wendt, depicting California’s Dana Point in vivid blues punctuated by splashes of white, is another gem of the sale.
