How do you find inspiration?
Lee MacLeod: It is easy to find inspiration here in New Mexico as a landscape painter. We have four distinct seasons and a wide variety of subjects to paint. Vast vistas, mountains, snow fields, monsoon clouds, they are all here. I am very fond of Ghost Ranch and the surrounding area and many of my larger paintings are the result of plein air paintings I completed there. For me a painting is successful if it captures the mood of the subject and provides some drama. In the field, that does not always happen, but when it does, it is quite exciting.
