Calvin Liang served as judge at the 20th Annual Carmel Art Festival, which was held in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, May 6 through 19. Aimee Erickson won First Place and the People’s Choice award for her painting “Down to Cannery Row.”
The festival featured a plein air competition, with the winners gathering for a quick-draw competition on the last day. Awards were given by medium, plus special awards from PleinAir magazine and Fine Art Connoisseur. The pieces entered by the 60 artists were posted online for a silent auction.
Randy Sexton’s “Fish Eye View” won Second Place.
“Evening Refuge” by Kevin Courter won Third Place.
Hiu Lai Chong won the PleinAir Magazine Award for her piece “China Cove Overlook.”
Best Pastel was won by Terri Ford for “Sunny Morning.”
David Sevallano won Best Watercolor for “Carmel: 63 and Partly Cloudy.”
Roos Schuring won Artists’ Choice for “Grey Morning Light (Monastery).”
Joaquin Turner won both Best Local Artist and the Mayor’s Choice Award for “Huddled Cypress.”
Brian Blood won Best Oil or Acrylic for “Sunset at Pebble Beach.”
