Robert J. Simone, An American Artist

Robert J. Simone is often described as a highly-skilled representational painter possessing an innate sense for color and composition. His enthusiasm for nature and passion for painting are infectious.  His path to a career in fine art was somewhat unconventional. After making the mid-life decision to follow that career path Robert never looked back. He supported himself through several years of intense study with businesses that kept him close to nature and near the sea. Simone says, “In those days I owned a landscape maintenance company and worked as a Captain on a scuba charter boat.  I had no formal art education to speak of, but was willing to do whatever it took. My schedule was flexible enough that I could take workshops and classes. It was that persistent effort; enduring long work days, attending classes and taking workshops that enabled me to transition into painting full time. By sharing that experience, I hope to serve as a torchbearer for anyone following a similar path.”

Now, Robert’s blend of sensual colors, confident brush strokes and captivating light convey the strength and beauty characteristic of his award-winning paintings. Simone is a frequent participant in events on the national plein air circuit. He has received numerous awards including Artists’ Choice at Plein Air Easton’s Tighlman Island Event 2016; 2nd Place in the Paint the Town competition at Solomons Plein Air 2016; and 3rd Prize overall at Mountain Maryland Plein Air 2016. Robert’s work is featured in the Florida’s Finest Plein Air Exhibition on display at the Apalachicola Center of History, Culture and Art in Apalachicola, Fl. He is affiliated with Outdoor Painters Society (OPS), Oil Painters of America (OPA), American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA), and the American Impressionist Society (AIS). He is represented by several galleries including: Reinert Fine Art, 179 King St., Charleston, S.C.,   ARTicles Gallery, 1445 Central Ave, St. Petersburg, Fl., and Reinert Fine Art, 1153 Main St., Blowing Rock, NC

Robert Simone is also highly regarded as an instructor/demonstrator. He teaches both studio and plein air workshops. He is known for that rare ability to paint, explain and entertain all at the same time. He is a patient instructor who supplies students with plenty of inspiration, encouragement and knowledge. Simone says, “My primary goals as an instructor are to make sure students come away excited about painting, feeling confident about their abilities and ready to push the boundaries of their talent and materials.”

For the remainder of 2016 Robert will be at home in St. Petersburg, Fl. spending valuable studio time on commissions and gallery paintings. He is also offering a two-day Seasonal Tune-Up, Plein Air Workshop December 9th – 10th, 2016 on his home turf.

Looking forward Simone hits the ground running in the new year with a Studio Seascape Painting Workshop at Lighthouse Art Center, 373 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, FL, January 13th -15th, 2017.  His teaching schedule for 2017 includes a Plein Air Workshop at North Shore Art Association, 11 Pirates Lane, Gloucester, MA, June 9th-11th as well as Asheville, NC for the Asheville Urban Landscape Project, dates TBA.

His adventures on the plein air circuit resume in March 2017. He is an invited participant in the 4th annual Lighthouse Plein Air Festival March 7th- 12th, 2017 and in the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, April 2nd-9th, 2017.
