As an avid outdoor artist, painting water from life in any form fascinates me – from languid pools, to rushing cataracts, to rain, ice, and snow…”
This painting was juried into the American Impressionist Society’s 2015 National Exhibition
(Honorable Mention) and 2016 Oil Painters’ of America Western Regional Exhibition.
About Thomas:
Thomas Jefferson Kitts is continually inspired by how light plays across the landscape and he has devoted his life to capturing it in oil. He prefers to work directly from life for its honesty and immediacy, incorporating many alla prima techniques developed by master artists such as Sargent, Sorolla, and Zorn.

Thomas is noted for his in-depth knowledge of art history and traditional painting techniques and for his enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge. He has written several article for PleinAir Magazine and appeared in other publications. He maintains an informative blog geared towards the beginner-to-intermediate artist, and besides pursuing his own work, Thomas offers group and private instruction throughout the year.
Thomas’ final two workshops of the year are PleinAir Tuscany, September 9-16, 2017, near Florence, Italy, and From Plein Air to Studio, December 4-8, 2017, at the Scottsdale Artists’ School in Arizona.
