“It was a perfect morning to paint outside – an empty canvas to fill, a perfect spot on the rocks, uplifted by the roar of the water, with summer steelhead jumping and good friends at my side. As an avid outdoor artist, painting water from life in any form fascinates me – from languid pools, to rushing cataracts, to rain, ice, and snow…”
This painting was juried into the American Impressionist Society’s 2015 National Exhibition
(Honorable Mention) and 2016 Oil Painters’ of America Western Regional Exhibition.
Thomas Jefferson Kitts is continually inspired by how light plays across the landscape and he has devoted his life to capturing it in oil. He prefers to work directly from life for its honesty and immediacy, incorporating many alla prima techniques developed by master artists such as Sargent, Sorolla, and Zorn.
