A fantastic opportunity awaits the astute outdoor painter in Utah this fall as the Escalante Canyons Art Festival launches its 2017 workshop schedule. So much to learn! So much to paint! Details here.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been an artist, one of the beautiful things about art is you never quite know it all. It’s a never-ending process of exploration, discovery, evolution, and education. It certainly keeps me motivated in the studio. A great opportunity to continue your creative journey opens mid-September in Utah during the 2017 Escalante Canyons Art Festival, which includes a number of tantalizing workshops.

Opening workshops start on Thursday, September 19. Artist Stephen Stauffer will host “Fundamentals of Plein Air Painting” for $300. Kate Withers will teach you how to master those tricky boulders during “Painting Rocks — Sunset Workshop” for $70 (a one-time workshop on Sunday, September 24). Bonnie Griffith’s workshop is a pastel painter’s dream. For $100, Griffith will help students develop their appreciation for underpainting plus other points to achieve paintings with a punch.

Printmakers aren’t left out either. Maureen Sheldon offers a unique plein air printmaking experience during a two-day workshop September 26-27. Last, but certainly not least, Loretta Domaszewski will help you loosen up! On September 28, the artist will build students’ confidence by showing them how to create layers of bold expression.

And those are just the workshops! The Escalante Canyons Art Festival features countless other creative and competitive opportunities sure to delight and entertain. Among them are open studios, live demonstrations, the plein air competition, esteemed vendors, live music, and so much more.
