Louisville, Kentucky, is an area rich with hypnotic plein air views and artistic talent. In 2017, the painting theme for the Plein Air Painters of Kentucky was “Architecture in Landscape,” and several of the group’s recent pictures feature during this exhibition.

On view now through July 29, “On the Waterfront and Beyond” is an intimate look into the growing plein air culture in Kentucky. In 1998, a cohort of artists founded the Plein Air Painters of Kentucky, and together they commit to painting once a week from May through October.

Despite what was described as a “challenging” painting season last year, the artists produced a large body of work, which is showcased in the exhibition. Each painting was produced last summer and fall from the waterfront extending to the Ohio River and beyond.
