Oil Painters of America is sponsoring a paint-out in Salisbury, North Carolina, next week.
Artist Beth Barger teaches a young student about the joys of plein air painting.
The paint-out coincides with OctoberTour, a celebration of the historic homes in Salisbury. OPA’s website reports that because Salisbury has both American Revolution and Civil War history, many locals will dress in period costume for the weekend. There will also be a Confederate encampment.

“Because OctoberTour always draws a sizeable audience, attention is brought to plein air painting. Artists have the opportunity at the end of the day to show and sell their work,” says Phyllis Eaton Steimel of Plein Air Carolina.
