The National Park Service is offering an artist-in-residency to artists of all kinds (including writing, painting, filmmaking, etc.) in Gates of the Arctic National Park, in Alaska.

Recipients of this residency will go on patrols with the Park Ranger, and therefore must be able and willing to hike the rugged backcountry in Alaska in the summer and carry their own gear and supplies. There’s a per diem attached to the residency, but artists are responsible for getting their own food—at least for the eight days in the two-week residency when they will be away from “civilization.” The payoff is a unique opportunity with dramatic scenery.
