The fabulous clouds over Idaho strongly urged Aaron Cordell Johnson to work big(ger).

Aaron Cordell Johnson didn’t plan on doing a large painting, but the sky he encountered required it.

Johnson was painting in Idaho, but near the border, so he thinks part of what he was depicting was in Washington. Johnson says he felt he was pushing the limits of his Open Box M easel with this 19″-x-19″ composition. “Initially I was planning on painting something smaller, but the big clouds demanded something bigger,” he says.
