Sedona Plein Air in Arizona attracted some top talent for its recent event. Who won?
Here are the highlights.
Patrick Saunders won Best in Show with his piece “Hillside History.”
“Sedona and the surrounding area is one of the most beautiful and varied landscapes I’ve ever painted,” says Saunders. “The award winner was painted in the town of Jerome, an old mining town that is now one of the 10 most haunted towns in the country. I loved the way the buildings were almost stacked one atop the other on the steep hillside. The particular house that I painted almost glowed in color even in the shade, which is why I chose it.” His wife, Kimberly Saunders, shot a video of him working on the winning piece.
“Last Light on Cathedral Rock,” by Martin Dimitrov. Image Award
Martin Dimitrov won the Image Award — meaning his painting will be plastered everywhere the event’s marketing reaches — with his wonderful piece “Last Light on Cathedral Rock.” Bill Cramer’s fellow artists chose his pieces for Best Body of Work. The Collectors Award went to Charlie Hunter for his painting “Morning at the Fish Hatchery.” Melanie Thompson, Bruce Gomez, Gretchen Lopez, and J. Brad Holt earned Merit Awards. Lori Putnam served as judge.
