“I went to the beach to paint a water scene, but I was drawn to the bright turquoise house and the beautiful flower bed,” Michele Usibelli said when describing her plein air painting “Afternoon Stroll.”

She visited this spot on Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach, California, two mornings in a row to complete this larger work.

“I initially had two additional people walking down the sidewalk, but felt they distracted from my focal point: the house.”

Award-winning artist Michele Usibelli shows you her unique method we call the “FocalFirst” approach in this art video workshop (click here to learn more and preview it!).
