The Cape Ann Plein Air event came out of the gate with more than $12,000 in prizes, putting Gloucester, Massachusetts, on the plein air event map in its inaugural year.
Lisa Egeli took home the top prize, winning $6,000 and a 1/4-page ad from PleinAir magazine for her First Place painting. Second place and $4,000 plus Featured Artwork honors from PleinAir magazine went to Neal Hughes. Thomas Jefferson Kitts won $2,000 and an assortment of Rosemary brushes for Third Place. Jacob Aquiar and Jacobus Baas earned Honorable Mention.

Judge Ray Hassard also chose winners in several categories. Best Americana was won by Ken Kowles. Best Use of Perspective went to Jeff Weaver, Mitch Baird won Best Use of Light, and Best Nocturne was won by Stephan Giannini. Best Maritime Activity was won by Nyle Gordon, Best Marine went to Patrick Lee, and Chuck Marshall won the Paul Strisik N.A. Award. The Donald Allen Mosher award was won by Janet Sutherland. Ken DeWaard was the recipient of the My Place by the Sea award, while Richard Sneary won the Neptune’s Harvest award. The Artist Spirit Award was given to Len Mizerek, and Eric Jacobsen won People’s Choice.
