Then Sings My Soul

This painting was created in the studio from plein air studies and photo reference. The majestic Teton mountains are a very spiritual place for me. The heavenly light reflected in the Snake River and the misty atmospheric light on the mountains in this scene conveyed that spiritual experience…one that I hope the viewers will feel as well.

Ralston, Nebraska, artist Debra Joy Groesser is best known for her impressionistic landscape paintings, particularly her plein air work. Debra is the CEO/President and a Signature member of the American Impressionist Society, a Master Signature member of Plein Air Artists Colorado, a Signature member of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and American Plains Artists, and an artist member of Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and the Salmagundi Club, New York. Debra’s ability to render emotion, mood and to capture the spirit of her subjects draws collectors worldwide to her work. “Painting is such a spiritual experience for me. Nothing inspires me more than being out on location, capturing the subtle nuances of color, light and atmosphere that can only be achieved by painting from nature. When I find a subject that triggers a strong emotional response in me, I know that’s what I have to paint. My greatest satisfaction is when the viewer has that same emotional response I did. ”

Debra is also well known for her portrait work. Her most visible portrait commission to date hangs at Omaha’s Holland Performing Arts Center – a 4 x 6 foot portrait of Richard and Mary Holland, commissioned by Omaha Performing Arts.

Debra has participated in countless juried and invitational exhibitions across the country. She is a frequent speaker and demo artist at schools, art and community events, and radio blog talk shows. She served on the faculty of the Plein Air Convention in 2014, 2015 and 2018. Debra’s work has been featured in several national art publications, including Art of the West, American Art Collector, Southwest Art and PleinAir Magazine.

Debra is represented by SouthWind Art Gallery, Topeka KS, Vanessa Rothe Fine Art, Laguna Beach CA, Mary Williams Fine Arts, Boulder CO, The Mission Gallery, St. George UT and Montgomery-Lee Fine Art, Park City UT in addition to her own gallery, Debra Joy Groesser Fine Art.
