PleinAir Podcast - Matt Ryder -
Dubai landscape painter Matt Ryder, featured in the PleinAir Podcast with Eric Rhoads, Episode 145

In this week’s PleinAir Podcast with Eric Rhoads, meet British artist Matt Ryder, who is a full-time artist working in Dubai, UAE. “I’m painting the area before it changes forever,” Ryder says.

Listen as Matt Ryder shares the following:
• What it’s like to paint in the conditions of Dubai, including the extreme heat, the quickness of the sunrise and sunset (resulting in short windows of time), and the importance of dressing appropriately for the desert
• How he went from working in an office to painting in the desert, including some of the challenges of working as a full-time artist there
• The event that “changed his life” and inspired him to become a professional plein air painter

Matt Ryder’s advice for painting outdoors in Dubai: “Have a good sense of humor, and don’t take things too seriously,” even if your tripod blows over and “your painting lands face down in the desert…The more times you go out, the more things get easier.”

Bonus: This week’s PleinAir Podcast includes a Marketing Minute!
Eric Rhoads, author of Make More Money Selling Your Art, explains:
• How to “visualize” your success and use this concept to make it a reality
• How to get past the habit of comparing yourself to other artists
