Already one of the most decorated living painters, Richard Schmid was among a select group honored at this week’s Plein Air Convention & Expo with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

At the 3rd Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo, being held this week in Monterey, California, publisher Eric Rhoads and PleinAir magazine editor Steve Doherty presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to four worthy individuals for their lasting accomplishments in the world of representational painting.

One award went to Richard Schmid, the distinguished painter, instructor, and champion of the alla prima technique. Schmid is the author of Alla Prima and the recently published Alla Prima II: Everything I Know About Painting, and More. Richard’s daughter Molly Schmid accepted the award on his behalf and offered a special presentation of her father’s work.

Also receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards at the event were California Art Club president Peter Adams and his wife, Elaine Adams, who is director of American Legacy Fine Arts in Pasadena. Jean Stern, the executive director of the Irvine Museum and a recognized scholar of California Impressionism, received the final award.
