The 16th Annual Plein Air Invitational in Borrego Springs, CA, opens on March 7 with a five-day paint-out by 14 invited artists. The artists, who have already been selected, paint until the evening of March 11. Work is judged on the 12th, and the reception and awards will occur on that afternoon/evening. The body of work, which fills the spacious mid-century modern gallery of the Borrego Art Institute, will hang until April 3.

Wekiva Paint Out, started in 2006, is a celebration of plein air artists that helps benefit charities such as Keep Seminole Beautiful and Wekiva Wilderness Trust. All week long, guests can visit Wekiva Island free of charge and witness world-class artists painting along the boardwalk, in kayaks, canoes, at the bar, and at various locations along the Wekiva River. Throughout the week, there will be plenty of opportunities to view the work, purchase their pieces, support our artists and charities, enjoy live music, indulge in great food, and celebrate art in our community!

After 17 years of documenting the landscapes and culture of the last vestige of authentic “Old Florida,” Forgotten Coast en Plein Air is among the world’s most prestigious plein air events. Artistic excellence and the production of investment-quality art continues to be the trademark of this 10-day festival. Organizers are honing what makes the Forgotten Coast event exceptional. “We realize the importance of focusing on quality and relevance. We transcend the typical event content to focus on the reasons why plein air painting is important, as well as how the process and the paintings contribute to the region’s resilience.”

The festival kicks off with a Paint Out Competition at the beautiful Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens on March 27. March 28–March 31 the artists paint in picturesque locations throughout Palm Beach and Martin Counties, competing against one another for cash and prizes. A Collector’s Party takes place on April 1 with the festival ending on April 2 with an art sale and live painting event. Art enthusiasts have the opportunity to learn and collect from the most highly regarded plein air artists in the country.

Each spring the Savannah Art Association welcomes painters to its annual plein air competition, Paint Out Savannah! The hostess city provides endless paintable opportunities, from coastal marshes, sandy beaches, and historic squares, to architecturally stunning city blocks. The event closes with an awards ceremony led by this year’s acting judge, Marc Hanson.

Shadows-on-the-Teche, a National Trust Historic Site in New Iberia, Louisiana, will present our 8th annual plein air competition March 12–18, 2022, with Mark Boedges overseeing artist selection and awarding prizes. Enjoy a unique region enhanced by its architecture, massive moss-draped live oaks, and sugar-producing fields watered by the meandering Bayou Teche. Home to pioneering sugar planters, the oldest operating rice mill in the United States, a 19th-century actor’s hunting estate, and Avery Island, the birthplace of Tabasco, this region offers excellent food, superb original music, and hospitable residents.
