Cindy Harris Painting in Staithes, 2022

How did you get started and then develop your career?
Cindy Harris: I remember painting my first plein air painting in 9th grade art class when it was still called “Painting Outside” as my high school art teacher recently reminded me. I can feel the freedom and excitement as I sat on the ground, studying the light and color while using watercolor to paint a peachy melon Victorian house across the street. College led me to a 40-year career in graphic design where I always pushed myself to integrate painting into projects and in my life as a mom and business owner. But it was never enough until I began to studying with my mentor, Lori Putnam a few years ago. This was the key that was missing to develop the skill and mindset I needed. I now feel like I am unlocking the door to my own destiny and shooting for the stars! Trusting that I am right where I need to be at this moment where I can learn and grow in art on a daily basis is truly a gift. I am grateful each day.
