What is the best thing about being an artist?
Jill Banks: First, I love painting – that important part of being an artist. I immerse myself wherever my easel travels savoring the atmosphere, the day, and the people met there. It helps that I get to paint in fantastic places like the South of France which was the spot for this year’s personal plein air painting trip in July. Having what it looks and feels like to be there emerge on canvas is pure magic. But even when the results aren’t stellar, I love soaking in my surroundings and pushing paint around. Every day is another chance to live and enjoy life to its fullest – while capturing it.

Second, being an artist has forged many wonderful relationships and friendships. I’m friends with so many of my collectors. It lights up my world to see them and the feeling is mutual. I recently was a featured artist at a very large new plein air event and loved seeing so many artist friends and meeting new ones. Same thing happens at all art gatherings and events. It’s a wonderful, happy reunion of this family formed and connected through art. I’m grateful art brought us together.
