Tom McGregor admires cattails. He truly became immersed in them during a recent painting session.

“In order to paint these cattails in the best light, I had to stand downwind while the tiny, airborne seeds flew into my nose, my mouth, my eyes, into my paint and pretty much every exposed surface I brought to their home,” says McGregor. “I have always been impressed with just how tough cattails are. They stand tall and spindly as they are whipped relentlessly by the frigid wintry winds here in Minnesota, only to shed their seeds in the lightest of breezes in the early days of spring.”
