Michel Normandeau likes to paint the interesting atmospheric effects created by the snow cannons that maintain the ski slopes near his home in Quebec, especially at dawn, and even in temperatures that would make a polar bear shiver.
“I love my winter season,” says Normandeau. “For many years I decided to paint outdoors during cold days to capture the spirit of the moment, and I discovered a technique with the time. When I return home, I start the fireplace, and I am looking at my paintings and I feel proud of myself that I do it. My body can resist for many hours in low temperature, and most of the time I am working in bare hands.” Read more about Normandeau’s efforts here.
