What more ideal painting location could there be for the first big invitational plein air event of 2013 than the Hawaiian island of Maui? The 8th annual festival just took place (February 16-24), with 25 top artists participating. Find out who was painting along the beaches in paradise.

Plein Air Maui began with a paint-out at the D.T. Fleming Beach area on Sunday, February 16 and concluded with an exhibition and sale at the Village Gallery in Lahaina on the following Sunday. In between, George Allen, Ken Auster, Gavin Brooks, Saim Caglayan, Debra Huse, Billyo O’Donnell, Hiu Lai Chong, Lindy Duncan, Scott Prior, and a number of other nationally known artists painted on the island.

Randall Sexton and Mary Pettis both offered workshops before and after the competitive event, and Jean Stern, executive director of the Irvine Museum, gave an informative lecture.
