The 4th Annual Plein Air Live has wrapped up after several days of camaraderie, painting workshops and roundtables, paint-along sessions, and learning from the masters. Here’s a recap of the amazing demos from Saturday in case you missed it!
Carl Bretzke set up his easel near Sarasota, Florida near a bridge with multi-colored lights nearby. In his demo, he explained how to paint artificial lights in a night scene.
Coming to us from a cold winter’s day on a Texas golf course, Carla Bosch explained the benefits of painting with acrylics en plein air, as well as insights on painting quickly and loosely.
Coming to us on location from Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Kathleen Hudson began her demo by taking “quick color notes” using transparent red oxide and ultramarine blue to create an underlying value structure. She finished the demo in the studio to create a more refined landscape painting.
When an old landscape painting no longer interests him, Douglas Fryer turns it upside down and paints a new scene, which he demonstrated in a plein air session alongside a special little lane lined by a creek in Utah.
The next Plein Air Live takes place in one year, but you don’t have to wait that long to join many of your fellow painters, including today’s best teachers. Join us in person at the Plein Air Convention & Expo in Denver, Colorado, May 21-25, 2023. Celebrity guest Jane Seymour will be there, and Lori Putnam is leading the pre-convention workshop. There are 4 stages and over 80 instructors. Will you be there?
