When Dan Gray decided to paint the spectacle of people jumping into very cold water in a “Polar Bear” type of event on Vancouver Island, he didn’t suspect that it would offer him the opportunity to break new ground.

Gray may have painted the first plein air piece depicting a drone. The flying camera was hovering above the swimmers as he was painting, so Gray included it. “Sign of the times,” Gray says.
