The Cincinnati Art Club and the Ryland Lakes Country Club recently presented a very special plein air painting event, exhibition, and celebration for current members and in honor of Frank Duveneck (1848-1919), the legendary artist who was a member of both organizations.

On October 20, 2012, 36 members of the Cincinnati Art Club (CAC) participated in the first plein air paint-out, art exhibition, and celebration organized with the Ryland Lakes Country Club. “The celebration honored two of Ryland Lake’s most storied members and past presidents of the Cincinnati Art Club — Frank Duveneck and Clement Barnhorn,” reports CAC President Todd A. Channer. “It also commemorated great milestones for the two organizations, as Ryland Lakes Country Club in Ryland Highlands, Kentucky, celebrated its 120th year and the Cincinnati Art Club observed 122 years.”
The artists’ finished plein air paintings, as well as a select few of their favorite pieces of art, were exhibited, and guests had the opportunity to tour the cottage Duveneck owned at Ryland Lakes Country Club. “The Art Club had more than 30 of their top artists painting at Ryland,” says Roger Hueck, Cincinnati Art Club curator. “Fourteen of these artists are nationally known for their work and are regularly accepted into national shows such as Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, International Salon, and Viewpoint. And in these shows, they often walk away with top awards.
