Paulette Auster, Ken Auster‘s widow, has joined up with some of Ken’s friends to celebrate the life of the California painter — just the way he would have wanted.
April 9 marks the service for Auster, who died on January 29. It will be held at 10 a.m. at Capo Beach Church, in Dana Point, California, with a reception immediately following. They are requesting that visitors not wear black, and instead wear Hawaiian shirts or bright colors.
Then, the next day, artists are invited to join in a giant paint-out to celebrate Auster’s life. From 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., artists will paint on the main beach at Laguna Beach. At 2:30, the celebrants move to Picnic Beach in Heisler Park for a Paddle-Out.

Finally, artists, admirers, and friends are invited to contribute to a project on Auster’s life. Paulette and friends write, “We wish to honor Ken’s memory and acknowledge the impact this great man has had on our lives and community. We invite you to participate in a book to be published, and a documentary, by sharing with us any moments, memories, photos, DVDs or other media.
